Job - mapped network drive

Post by grzegorz »

Hi.
I have a question regarding backup configuration. I have a Windows machine where a user has a mapped network drive. Does Veeam back up such a drive? Do I need to specify only the system disk in the exclusions?

Hi Greg,

Not at this time I'm afraid with image level VM backups.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... er=120#vms

See the final bullet point on the Virtual Hardware section from this User Guide page:
RDM virtual disks in physical mode, independent disks, and disks connected through in-guest iSCSI initiator are not supported for host-based backup, and are skipped from processing automatically. If backup of these disks is required, use agent-based backup.

Network shares and mount points targeted to 3rd party storage devices are also skipped as these volumes/disks are not visible in the VM configuration file.
Is your goal to ensure this mapped drive does _not_ get backed up or you need to protect the data on that share?

If you don't want to back it up, good news, nothing to do :)
If you do want to back it up, is it feasible to backup the source of the mapped network drive perhaps instead?
