Re: Thank you, Gostev
I was having a conversation years ago with some fellow admins and we were complaining about all of the garbage weekly emails we had to sort through in our inboxes. One admin mentioned that the only one he looked forward to was the "Veeam email from that Gostev dude." We all agreed, and the conversation turned into how great Gostev's weekly emails are.
So, I 100% agree with the OP, thank you Gostev, for all your years of those fantastic weekly emails. They are definitely missed. Good luck with your new position at Veeam.

Re: Thank you, Gostev
Thank you for the many years of newsletters. I, like many others, miss them. I have never understood why people feel the need to "correct" someone who has a differing view or opinion. If I find any newsletter not to my liking, I just unsubscribe and move on with my life. I don't agree with everyone on everything and that is how I learn.Gostev wrote: ↑May 21, 2024 9:32 am Hello Mike, thank you so much for your kind words.
Truth be told, there are additional complications these days due to my new senior role. Please appreciate that I can no longer openly share my personal opinion like I did without it coming across as an official Veeam's position. This was already a major issue even before I became C-level, with our Alliance execs firefighting the fallout of my newsletters every other Monday. But same issues now would mean 10x bigger problem, including for me personally, and every next newsletter can become a Veeam career-ending oneyet I cannot fix this because I refuse to create bland content which only goal is to make everyone happy.
I just like to say it how it is and 11+ years of writing this newsletter convinced me that it's practically impossible to produce interesting, non-bland technical newsletters without constantly upsetting someone. And I'm not talking vendors only but also regular readers who disagreed strongly with some of my points, got upset about jokes I make etc. and decided to go all the way to our CEO with their concerns... this happened many times over the past decade and a few folks even made it their mission to get me "corrected". It was not a pleasant experience but is an unavoidable reality for any newsletter with tens of thousands subscribers.
So unfortunately I'm unable to start again while I'm holding my current role at Veeam, however I can definitely foresee restarting if/when I leave Veeam - as overall, I did enjoy doing this and I know that many people liked the content.
Thank you for understanding.
If/when you leave Veeam, Veeam will lose part of its soul.
Cheers!

Gotta echo other's sentiments here. Gostev's blog was one of the few I read every time it came out.

Re: Thank you, Gostev
Yes this weekly newsletter was the best thing we get every week regarding IT, and yes we miss it. Even today I don't receive many newsletters, don't think there is stuff with good content that worth a newsletter.
In the beginning, maybe 9/10 years ago one newsletter Gostev in one of his newsletter quote one article of mine, I think was regarding using Linux accounts on Veeam Backup, cant remember, and I was just starting blogging back then, and I was like... WOW, Gostev just shared my blog post
So thank you for all, and hope one day you will return writing those critical, knowledgeable and ironic in some ways, newsletter.

I am late to the party, but I will also say like others have, I always looked forward to Gostevs Monday email. I was sad when it sopped in 2022 and had always hoped it would start again, but it looks like that will not happen.

Gang, I also miss Anton Gostev's weekly digests... (it was the only one I ever looked forward to...) but the world has changed.
Though they will be missed, he needs to do what is right for him at this time and if that means discontinuing his newsletters indefinitely, I respect that.
Again, thanks for everything, @Gostev, Slava Ukraini!

I do miss these newsletters. Gostev made us all look smarter that we are. Now we must actually work for a living. That was a joke (or was it?).

Oh no! Allthough I do understand the reasons, it's very sad to read that Gostev's newsletter won't return. This was an irreplacable part of every monday morning, I've read it even on my smartphone before I was in the office... So, all I can say is thank you for all the good posts in the past!

As others have said, Gostev’s contributions to Veeam should not be underestimated. He’s a big reason the product is held in such high esteem.
Thank you Gostev.

Re: Thank you, Gostev
After the little scare caused by the newsletter title, I’d like to add my two cents.
Gostev’s online presence, at least for me, has created a huge amount of trust in Veeam as a company.
It’s a bit sad to see such a positive and valuable thing come to an end (the newsletter personal touch, not the trust
)))

Thank you all for your kind words.
@manfri this is an old thread but the context of the last few responses is my departure from Veeam.

I had the pleasure of meeting Anton many years ago in Rome at a VTEC event and then later at the V100 Summit. He was always helpful and attentive to everyone's requests.
Thank you for everything you have done.

Gostev,
Your personal responses, quick and to the point, on forum topics has always been appreciated. You put the "face" on Veeam for me. Hopefully Veeam doesn't become another impersonal big-corp now!

Re: Thank you, Gostev
I can't believe he is not part of VEEAM anymore. Seems like it was only yesterday that I was trying out this new software called VEEAM, looking to move away from Backup Exec... Good luck out there Gostev! I hope that your compensation package has made it so you can choose to do a passion project if you want.

Re: Thank you, Gostev
I too started with FastSCP and VI3, can't even remember what year was that, and have been with Veeam ever since.
Gostev's departure looks like a big loss for the company and for all customers. My hope is that Veeam will keep up with the quality of the product AND the customer service, that has really made Veeam unique in the software world.

I will double-down on what everyone else has said here - Thank you, Gostev. The newsletter you curated was one of the best in all of tech. I will always appreciate the time you took to reach out and respond to us in this forum, or personally, when we had questions. That kind of interaction rarely exists anywhere else. Thank you for everything and good luck with your next opportunity.

Re: Thank you, Gostev
What amazed me the most was Gostev became one of the top people at Veeam and he still responded to random forum threads and was deeply involved in the technical issues being posted here. He still stayed true to his roots when all we had were these forums back when Veeam was starting out and he did not stop contributing and helping us when needed.
I wish you the best Gostev and thank you for everything you have done to help make Veeam one of the best and reliable products out there.
