Can't access NAS with Veeam, windows works
Hello,
I got a strang behaviour:
I have been using Veeam to backup my notebook on a Syn215 NAS for a long time and it worked fine.
Now I had to reinstall my Windows 10 on my notebook. I can access the Syn Nas backup share with Windows and see all files. I can read and write pn it.
I tried to set up a new backup job with veeam for the notebook. I choose "Share folder" as destination. I specified the share, but when I want to go to next item, veeam reports the Error "Username or password is wrong: Failed to create or open file"
I tried to specify username and password for the share, which I had defined on th NAS, but same error.
Any idea whats wrong?
kind regards, Elmar

Re: Can't access SYn NAS with Veeam, windows works
Hello Elmar.
To make sure we are on the same page please confirm that with this credentials you can open NAS folder within the regular windows browser (or create a mapped folder with this account) on the same machine where agent is installed? Thanks!

Re: Can't access NAS with Veeam, windows works
Hello Dima,
thanks for the response!
I can get the share folder with the net use command:
net use z: \\192.168.178.35\Backup /user:elmar <password>
this works.
When I try to configure the share folder in Veeam with this user, it fails.
Kind Regards, Elmar

Elmar,
Please open a case via Control Panel > Support > Technical Support as we need to check the debug logs (it's absolutely free). Thanks!

Re: Can't access NAS with Veeam, windows works
Thanks to the Supprt:
The solution is to use "hostname\username" to specify the user on the NAS device. Windows seems to use a different way of accessing the device and does not need the hostname.
Kind regards and thanks alot...

Good lord, I don't know how many hours I lost because of this. The solution is to use "hostname\username" to specify the user on the NAS device. Windows seems to use a different way of accessing the device and does not need the hostname.
Veeam team, PLEASE ADD THIS AS AN INFO on the screen where we add the share credentials!

Re: Can't access NAS with Veeam, windows works
This is a more general issue. I ran into this just lately accessing DFS from my computer (outside of Veeam Software) and lost as you said an hour of work figuring this out. @Dima P. I think this is a good idea, giving a hint at the wizard for this.

Hello Felipe,
Can you please clarify if what format you tried to enter user name before raising a support ticket? Just user name without hostname? Thank you!

In my case username@domain.tld did not work but domain\username worked in our internal DFS.
