Service provider - Microsoft licensing requirements

Post by Nubster »

Can anyone share the licensing requirements from a Microsoft perspective when hosting Veeam Backup and Recovery as a service provider? I'm not concerned with the replica/DRaaS licensing, just purely from Main VBR environment and VSPC.

I've spoken to several licensing "specialists" at MS and our Distributors, and I don't think I've ever received the same answer twice. To that end, would any service providers like to suggest how they do it?

I've been told to use SPLA, External Connectors licenses (for VSPC), just regular Volume License, etc. I figured attacking it from the MS side is a failure as they have no idea how Veeam works or what it does. So, I came to the Veeam side hoping someone could shed some light!

Thanks

It depends on what your deployment looks like ultimately,

If you already have SPLA for your existing infra then it would make sense to report under that.

Thanks!

That was my thought, and it's how we currently do it. I wasn't sure if there were better ways or what to do if we stopped being an SPLA partner (we're trying to ween ourselves off!).

I know that VBR 13 will be available on Linux (Love you, Veeam - I have been waiting for years!), but does that include the VSPC?

Hello Nubster

If you are a Service Provider, I suggest to add yourself to our service provider forum user group. This gives you access to our hidden service provider sub forums where these products are discussed: Apply for the Cloud and Service Providers user group

VSPC on Linux won't be part of the next backup server release. I suggest to add yourself to the service provider forum group and discuss your request with the VSPC PM/analysts in our subforum for VSPC topics.

Best,
