Re: Restore from backup copy job

Post by Vertigo »

Well, as an experiment, I just tried installing the Windows Agent onto a test machine on the office network.
I then used this to do a restore, pointing it directly at the backup copy folder.

It prompted me for the encryption password but then worked absolutely fine and allowed me to browse and restore files from the backup copy.

So I'm no longer sure what the above comments about authentication and needing the original VBR server are about but it appears to work in isolation with just the backup copy.

Back again!

Just tried this again and it no longer works. Trying to access the backup copy VBM file with the Windows Agent produces the infernal "cannot open files creating with Backup & Recovery" error.

No idea what's changed twixt then and now as I've not changed any versions. How am I supposed to access the backup copy in a disaster recovery scenario now then? Do I have to install B&R on the machine with the backup copy files?

Hello Toby,

Such a scenario was never supported. To restore from backup copy jobs, you must first import the backup into a Veeam B&R server, and then connect from the agent side to the B&R repository to perform the restore. You can use Veeam Community edition as a temporary solution and import backup to a local repository. Thank you!
