Service Availability Report

Post by makacmar »

Hello,
i would like to ask, if VO is able to provide availability of service.
Goal is that our customer is asking of monthly report how up was backup and restore service due contract, where is defined how long we could have maintenance of service
Currently we are monitoring Veeam Backup Service and from that we are calculating % of availability
we are looking for such report to divide for availability, maintenance and unavailability of entire month

thank you

Hello Marcel,
We do not currently have an uptime-based report of the Veeam Backup & Replication Server, or components. We do have an SLA Success Percentage, which can demonstrate the success ratio, grouped by day: I think this what you are looking for, because I guess the backup server could be down for 22 hours a day, boot up and do the backup in that 2 hours window and go down again, but still the most important piece which was the restore point was created.

Please let us know so we can look further together.

Hi Jorge,
our customers are looking for report like availability of service itself
based on contracts, customers have guarantee, that for example no more than 4 hours monthly could be backup/restore service down
ration is different scope - they have signed guaranteed success rate as well

in availability report if VBR and VEM was not down longer than 4 hours monthly
if some proxies are down is ok, if there are still some proxies, which are able to continue with service - this is counted as high-availability
some with repositories - if inside of scale-out repository are some extents down - is ok, because another are still up and could takeover role to save backups - this is counted as high-availability
if reported downtime is longer, then there are penalties ....

I see,
We do not have anything to document, or show an uptime of service SLA. I take this as a good FR for the future, thank you.

We currently have an alarm called "Backup data collection failure" which shows if the main services between Veeam ONE and VBRs were down, or the most generic ones called "x connection failure" we have it for the VBR, Proxies,, Repos, etc.

These last ones alarms can be shown historically on the report called Backup Alarms Overview, so you can see when these occurred, it doesn't include the downtime period:

You can see the downtime of these alarms here from when it was error until resolved:

If this is not enough, I would probably recommend using something like https://github.com/louislam/uptime-kuma, where you can define what you really want to monitor (uptime, services, your own script that gives X result, etc) and share that view with the Customer.

Thank you for the great idea to improve this visibility. Let us know.
