Dell PowerStore Plugin and NVMe over TCP

Post by RBessinger »

Case # 07924172

We are in the process of migrating to a Dell PowerStore and was hoping to use NVMe over TCP for the storage snapshot-based backups. We were shocked to find that it wasn't supported yet with Veeam and wondering what options we have now since just migrating into the PowerStore. We have always used iSCSI in the past with our old HPE Solution.

I submitted a case to support and they responded with the following:
Veeam Backup & Replication does not currently support storage snapshot integration for NVMe over TCP with Dell PowerStore. Storage integration is only supported for iSCSI and Fibre Channel protocols. NVMe-oF (including NVMe over TCP) is not supported for storage snapshot-based backups or restores. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

To use Veeam storage snapshot integration with Dell PowerStore, you must present your datastores to ESXi hosts and Veeam proxies using either iSCSI or Fibre Channel. If your environment is using NVMe over TCP, storage snapshot integration will not function, and you will encounter errors related to LUNs and proxies during snapshot operations.

If you require storage snapshot-based backups, you will need to reconfigure your storage so that datastores are presented via iSCSI or Fibre Channel. Alternatively, you can use standard Veeam backup methods such as HotAdd or NBD, which do not require storage integration and will work with NVMe over TCP datastores, but will not leverage storage snapshots.

The Dell PowerStore Plugin for Veeam only supports iSCSI and Fibre Channel. No additional plugin or configuration will enable NVMe over TCP support for storage integration at this time.

Any information on roadmap when NVMe over TCP will be added as an option?
