Ubuntu 24.04 and Veeam 13
Hi,
I have just upgraded Veeam to Version 13, and now my Veeam Proxy is unable to be upgraded, and so work.
I have seen a post, to say that Ubuntu v24.04 is not supported by new versions of Veeam, unfortunately this was after I carried out the upgrade.
Is there any work around to this?
What are other people doing in this case?
Thanks,
alamb200

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and Veeam 13
Where did you get the info that Ubuntu 24.04 is not supported as a proxy? We have that running fine and according to the system requirements page https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13 it is still supported as a VMware or a General Purpose Proxy. It is only not supported as a Hyper-V Proxy and as a CDP Proxy.

I got it from here:
veeam-backup-for-microsoft-365-f47/ubun ... 96172.html
The actual error I was seeing was the Veeam component upgrade was failing because rpm was not on the server. I then looked further into this and found the link above.

That topic is for "Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365", which is a different product from "Veeam Backup & Replication". Which are you using?

I have just upgraded to Backup and Replication V13. We don't use the Office 365 version.
I just took it that there was some crossover of software.

OK, then it is supported to use Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as either a VMWare Backup Proxy or a General-Purpose Backup Proxy (and even as a hardened repository) as described in the user guide I linked above.
We also had no problem with our proxies when we updated from V12 to V13 some time ago, so this is not a general problem.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and Veeam 13
How do you get round pushing out new Veeam updates to the Ubuntu device.
I need to install the new versions of the installer service, Veeam Data Mover service and VMware VDDK, but I get this error:
Failed to upgrade host components. Error: 'Error: sudo: rpm: command not found; Exit code: 1'
Sorry. this may be a stupid question, but all I can find starts talking about installing Alien.

"How do you get round pushing out new Veeam updates to the Ubuntu device." I didn't have to, when I updated our VBR from V12 to V13 I checked the box "automatically update remote components" and it worked correctly, as it always did for me in the past. Normally the updates are either installed by the VBR directly (if that box is checked) or you start that through the backup console after the VBR update is complete. If the update of the components on the Linux Proxy fails in your environment you should open a Case to let support analyze this, because this is not how it should work.

We use Ubuntu 24.04 as well for Proxies with VBR/VCC, and they upgraded fine with v13. Based on your error message, try running this on the Ubuntu server - sudo apt-get install rpm

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and Veeam 13
Thanks for that. We are getting nearer.
I get this message now:
Failed to upgrade components Error: RPM should not be used to directly install RPM packages, use Alien instead! However assuming you know what you are doing..... warning: /temp/veeam-openssl3-3.0.0.31-1.x86_64.rpm
Failed dependencies: /bin/bash is needed by veeam-openssl3.0.0.31-1.x86_64
I feel like we are very near now.
Can I download the actual files from anywhere instead of asking Veeam to install them.
If there is a simpler answer, please let me know.

Unsure now what else to do. You need to open a support ticket I think to get to the bottom of the problem.

Re: Ubuntu 24.04 and Veeam 13
@alamb200,
Ubuntu 24.04 is supported as a VMware backup proxy
You shouldn't need to install anything manually for this, so open a Support Case, as sounds like you have a technical issue and we cannot troubleshoot technical issues over the forums, as noted when creating topics. I understand the topic started with a general question on if the scenario is supported, but since we're now troubleshooting specific error messages, please continue with Veeam Support.
