Surebackups on the VBR12 server itself

We have a customer where we're backing up two physical servers. They absolutely need backup testing so since our BDR is capable, I enable the Hyper-V role on it and added it to Veeam as a standalone Hyper-V host.
I deployed a virtual lab (single host automated) and tried a surebackup job but Veeam is failing to reach the virtual appliance to see that it's running. Has anyone been able to do this?

SureBackup on Hyper-V must work, so very likely a review of the will be required to understand the challenges here.
