Hello Veeam Team,
We would like to request support for file-to-tape (Backup to Tape or File to Tape) for Oracle RMAN plugin backups stored on HPE StoreOnce Catalyst repositories.
1. Current Limitation :
Backups created via the Oracle RMAN plugin and stored on StoreOnce Catalyst cannot be used as a source for Backup to Tape or File to Tape jobs.
2. Use Case :
In enterprise environments, especially in financial and public sectors, tape-based offsite storage is still a mandatory requirement for compliance and disaster recovery.
3. We are currently operating :
- Oracle RAC environment using RMAN plugin backups
- HPE StoreOnce Catalyst as primary backup storage
- Veeam Backup & Replication for backup orchestration
- Physical Tape Library (PTL) for long-term retention
4. Problem Due to this limitation :
- Direct tape offloading is not possible
- We are forced to use inefficient workarounds such as:
- Data Pump (expdp) dump backups (no PITR support)
- Additional RMAN copy jobs to file systems (extra storage and I/O overhead)
5. Impact :
- Increased storage consumption (duplicate data)
- Operational complexity
- Reduced recovery capability when using dump-based alternatives
- Difficulty meeting compliance requirements
We would like to request one of the following :
1) Verify that the V13 Development Roadmap includes backup-to-tape support for RMAN plug-in backups on Catalyst.
2) Enable File-to-Tape support for plugin-managed backup data.
3) Provide a supported method to export plugin backups directly to tape without intermediate duplication.
This feature is critical for enterprise environments where both disk-based backup and tape-based archival are required.
and limitation is a blocker for adopting Veeam in environments with strict tape compliance requirements.
Thank you.
