VeeamZip ProxyDetector Issue

Post by phil.p »

Just thought I'd post about a problem I've hit while testing out the new VeeamZip feature in 6.1 (currently using B&R Enterprise) as I like the idea of using this for one off archiving jobs.

There is currently no option to select a source proxy when backing up VM's using VeeamZip and instead it relies on automatic network detection. The problem is, it doesn't appear to be actually checking the subnet and rather is making an assumption based on the IP address in question.

We're using 10.x.x.x addresses on our network with different /24 subnets in different locations and when running a VeeamZip job the following appears in the log:
[15.08.2012 14:30:47] <01> Info [ProxyDetector] Proxy [SERVERNAME] - IP address [10.1.0.x] is in the same subnet as host [VMware ESXi 5.0.0 build-469512] IP [10.2.0.x]. Subnet mask [255.0.0.0].
So it seems to be assuming that a /8 subnet is being used and as such is allocating a proxy that is based over a WAN link - this is obviously a problem as VeeamZip is running a full backup and so will likely cripple bandwidth and even if that doesn't happen a large job is never going to complete on a slow link.

I've logged a support case (ID#5210979) but thought it worth posting here as I generally check the forums before raising an issue as I'm sure many people do.

Cheers,
Phil

Phil, this should be fixed in patch 1 for Veeam B&R 6.1, which just became available and can be obtained through our technical support team. Thanks.

When is the release of this patch scheduled for general download?

The patch resolved this issue although it's now thrown up some addtional IP related issues (some proxies are now showing up with 0.0.0.0 IP addresses) which is causing failures to live jobs, not just VeeamZip jobs.

I'll update once it's resolved for reference.

Yes, this was also reported in another thread earlier today. Being investigated currently by our support.
