Any reason to have multpile ISCSI NICS on a backup proxy?

Post by aeccles »

I'm using Veeam 6.1 with ESXi 5 on with an Equallogic PS4100x SAN.

I have direct access setup and running. Question is this... Is there any benefit of having multiple ISCSI connections from the backup proxies to the SAN?

Will a single job using multiple paths?
If multiple jobs are running at the same time will it use multiple paths?
Any other pros/cons?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron, multipathing is managed by the underlying operating system, but is usually advised to disable it since it does not work well with VBR.

Small correction, MPIO does not work well with VDDK (VMware vStorage API) when it retrieves the data from source storage - not with VBR. For example, multipathing to Veeam backup repository will work just fine.

Advice no to go with the MPIO configuration as it will give you lots of errors. Speaking from live experience when I have implemented the initial configuration with Direct SAN.. Stay away from this type of configuration or else you will endup having Errors or Warnings.
