VM´s stay in "Paused" mode...
Hi!
I´m using veeam B&R and Hyper-V Server 2012 with SCVMM2012 SP1.
Sometimes after backing up my VM´s on Hyper-V they are stuck in state "Paused". This does not happen every time. Does someone else has the same problem?

Patrik, probably the best way to address this issue is to contact our technical support team. This has not been reported before, as far as I know, and definitely requires logs review and/or webex session to investigate. Thanks!

I also I have this problem. I have 1,3TB Lun with 250GB free space (running Windows 2012 file server), and Hyper-V-VMMS on the host log says that virtual machine was paused because there was no Disk space.

Re: VM´s stay in "Paused" mode...
Maybe that is why my machines is paused as well. Veeam is complaining on free space on my "C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1" saying that it is 0,0kb left. But i have about 8TB on this storage.
I will try to reboot my hyper-v server and then open a case on this. Because this is causing serious trouble for me. Production servers being paused is not funny.
Which logfiles did you find you error in?

Hi Patrick,
Do you have any error/warning messages in Windows Event Log -> Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows-> Hyper-V section? I've seen similar behavior in my labs when VMs were paused even though I had enough free space on the CSV storage.
Thanks!

Re: VM´s stay in "Paused" mode...
Hi!
Yes i have error messages in the log. It says that there is no disk space left on my ClusterStorage\Volume1 and the VM will be paused.
But in fact i have about 7,5TB free on this volume.
I will explain my set up for you.
I have 2 Hyper-V 2012 Servers.
hyperv1 and hyperv2
They are clustered to cluster hvcluster01.
This cluster have a shared iSCSI volume from our Dell SAN. It is on this volume that we have all our VM´s stored.
I have sent all the logfiles to Veeam Support now. Hopefully it will be a fix for this problem.

Do you see these messages in the Windows Event log on the Hyper-V server or in the job debug logs?boje wrote:Yes i have error messages in the log. It says that there is no disk space left on my ClusterStorage\Volume1 and the VM will be paused.

Someone please include the support case ID for this issue, so that we can check upon the progress. Thanks!

Hi all,
Just got feedback from Veeam support. Case #00164345
This is a Microsoft issue, they are apparently working on a patch to fix it.
See the following thread for details.

Re: VM´s stay in "Paused" mode...
This might be the Server a Server 2012 bug - KB2791729 - will fix this.
The hotfix is still under development but you might get it officially from microsoft by using a support call.
However it is already published in the community. For me it has worked perfectly to prevent my "pause"-troubles.
see also http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... 3b5e10694d
Background: Server 2012 calculates the size of a NTFS volume to "zero" bytes in some cases - this can be triggered by a volume snapshot request from "outside" windows as veeam did freqently.
The rest of the story is known: the watch for free space on volumes for virtual disks catches sometime "innocent" virtual machines an sets them to pause mode.
The Hotfix KB2791729 will help also if you do not use CSV-tech.
If you want to wait until the release if this fix in the technet one line of power-shell code has been suggested "Get-VM | Where-Object {$_.State -eq 'Paused'} | Resume-VM".
Execute this frequently with the help of the scheduler during veeam backup-windows

A couple of previous posts indicate that the issue was on Microsoft's side and they've issued a fix.

Re: VM´s stay in "Paused" mode...
we too are experiencing this but only every now and then. The System Volume Information folder in our clusterstorage was populated with what appear to be backup / snapshots of the VMs, eventually filling up the whole volume and putting the VMs into paused state, hence bringing down the network! we're using Veeam backup version 8, hoping ver 9 will resolve this!
