still problem with tape-eject on job-finish
hi,
I still have a problem with the automatically tape eject, when the copy to tape job is finished.
I have a Dell LTO5 single slot tape drive connected to the server via SAS. I have 6 tape cartridges, each per day from monday to saturday. I do a full backup, every day. The tapes are owerritten every time. No incremental or similar.
I have installed the lates patch 1 for Veeam B&R v.7
When i don`t activate the function "eject the media once the job finishes" the copy job finishes successfully, every day:
When i activate the eject checkbox, the job doesn`t finish:
When I come to the server in the mornig, the tape is ejected from the drive in this condition, but the copy job says "waiting for tape". when I abort, I get the error, shown above.
I don`t know, why thy job says "tape currently in drive cannot be used for backup" and ejects it?!
In the eventlog of the server I get the error "Session File to Tape Job 1 (Full) has been completed.", when I abort the copy job.
As said, when a don`t activate the eject function, the copy job finishes correctly every day with the same tapes.
any hints for me?!
Thank you

I'm wondering what retention is specified in media pool settings. Thanks.

Re: still problem with tape-eject on job-finish
It's a known issue with using "Don't protect data" option in case of standalone drives. Currently, the tapes are not overwritten as they are supposed to. According to QA team, this bug is fixed in the VB&R 7.0 R2 that should be released soon.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: still problem with tape-eject on job-finish
This means that "don’t protect" option doesn’t seem to work properly in case of standalone drive. That being said, having this option should guarantee that no matter what the tapes currently inserted in drive should be overwritten with the new data, once a tape job starts.
However, currently the tapes aren’t overwritten as they are supposed to, and new tape needs to be inserted. As a result, you see a corresponding message “tape currently in drive can’t be used for backup”.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Yep, the issue with “do not protect data” not working properly in case of standalone drives should be fixed in v7 R2. So, kindly, keep us updated about the results you get.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi,
good news. The copy job was finished successfully this morning and the tape was ejected.
Fortunately the backup-speed also increased. I will keep an eye on that

Hello,
So the R2 update clearly fixed the issue. Thank you for the heads up!
