VBR Server on Server 2012 R2

Post by lordjeffers »

Hi,

Am I missing something here? Veeam's "Support for 2012 R2" document clearly states that VBR Server is supported when installed on 2012 R2:

Veeam Backup & Replication
All editions (paid and free)
All packages (standalone and suites)
7.0
Current release; supports installing Veeam components
(Backup server, Backup proxy server, Backup repository, WAN
accelerator, Enterprise Manager) on Windows Server 2012,
Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

I upgraded my standalone Veeam server to 2012 R2 yesterday and this morning I find that 28 VMs have failed to backup due to RPC errors:
12/11/2013 23:15:37 :: Failed to prepare guest for hot backup. Error: The remote procedure call failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BE)

So I logged a new case with Support and got a reply back saying that Veeam isn't supported and apologies for any inconvenience. ref: 476534

I have some major VMs missing from last night's backups and need this resolved. If it isn't supported then I'll have to reinstall 2012.

Please can somebody clarify what the statement about support for 2012R2 actually means?

Hi, David,

Apart from upgrade of backup management server, were there any other environmental changes?

Thanks.

Please also review this thread discussing similar setup and error, probably will help. Thanks!

David, please upgrade to Veeam B&R v7 R2, which provides full Windows Server 2012 R2 support, and verify whether it addresses the issues you're experiencing. If this does not help, then I guess the issues are not connected to Server 2012 R2 to start with. Thanks.

Hi,

That was good timing with regards to Patch 2 being released. After installing the patch, I have had 100% success with all backups.

Good work!

Thanks
