Server: all HP Server later G5
Firmware: HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2014.09

Successfully tested with HP ML 350 G6 + HP LTO 5 internal Drive

Solution:
- http://www.veeam.com/kb1887 - no effect

- The SPP 2014.09 have a bug in the "HP Insight Management WBEM Provider" Version 10.0.0.0
- you must downgrade it to 9.50

1. uninstall "HP Insight Management WBEM Provider" version 10.0.0.0
2. Download the right version (it is also include in the SPP 2014.06)
2.1 www.hp.com/go/support
2.2 Search your Server
2.3 Select the right operating System
2.4 Expand Software - System Management - to choose Management WBEM provider Agent
3. Download and "Run as Administrator"
4. Restart Server
5. Now, backup to tape should work

I had the same thing when I installed the v10.10.0.0 HP agents on our B&R server, so the issue still exists. Definitely the HP agents which caused this, breaking the HP tape drivers. In my case I uninstalled the agents to resolve the problem.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your findings. It saved me a lot of time investigating why our tape backups suddenly started failing.

Thank you OP for posting your solution. I rolled back to 9.50 and all is hunky dory.

Note: For those doing the roll back, if you cannot install the 9.50 WBEM agent then it's a problem with the Visual C++ 2012 RTM being installed from installing the HP Insight Management Agent. Uninstall the Visual C++ 2012 RTM first, then install 9.50 WBEM, and finally install the HP Insight Management Agent. Do it in that order and the 9.50 WBEM will install fine.
