v9 Tape Issue

Good Morning,

after update to v9 i get some Errors with Tape Backup and GFS.

Created a Backup to Tape with GFS Pool as a Target, i got this Error:

06.02.2016 00:00:18 :: No GFS candidate for Weekly media set was found for today, waiting 

Backup Job of all VM's is running on Friday 10:00 pm. This Job was creating a Full Synthetic Backup afterwards until 4:00 am.

But Tape Job didnt find a Backup File after 12 Hours runtime?

When i start the Backup to Tape Job manuell there is no Error. But it used the wrong Tape, Weekly Job used Monthly Tape. Which was not in the Pool of Weekly Tapes.
Only Option was to remove all Tapes from the Pool other then the one Weekly Tape.

I also ste the Option "Export the following media sets upon job completion" in the Tape Job
I got this Error:

Other Problem is, i had a few Tapes without Barcode before in Use, now the Tapes have Barcodes, but an inventory will show this Error after update to v9:

I didnt "remove from catalog" before i use the Barcode on the Tapes. Is it now a Problem? Is it possible to delete them in the SQL Database?

To clarify, the source backup to disk job was creating the synthetic full on Friday and backup to tape (GFS) was scheduled to run weekly backup to tape on Friday, is that correct?

Export the following media sets upon job completion" in the Tape Job

Unfortunately, known issue – will be fixed in the upcoming update (I am not sure but there might be a fix at the support side)

Possibly a conflict in the catalogue since these tapes were already added (as non labeled) and contain some data. Than you label them – and now its threated as a new tapes, although it still contains previously written data. Delete from catalogue (or short erase) should solve it.

Hello Dima,

sorry for the late Reply. I did some Trouble Shooting with the Support (Thanks to Nik H. which had a lot of Patience)

Fixed are now 2 Problems:
Export Media was Fixed with enable "Mail Slot" on HP 1/8 G2 Library. Because there were no "Export Slot" free before.
But after talking with Support i agreed this Function is useless for our Environment. But Export and Import is only working when i switch to "Use native SCSI Commands" with HP Drivers i only get an error.

The Export Media to "Vault" is the know Issue as far as i know.

After changing to "Use native SCSI..." the Library was also successfull in the Inventory from the Tapes. There was no Error like Tape 1 from media set Media set 19.12.2015 22:37 has never been inventoried.
So i think this Problem is fixed. Or only related to the HP Drivers(the latest one are installed on the Backup Server). Maybe there will be an update for the Drivers and FW in the next Time from HP.

But i Think its only a wrong Configuration from the Job. GFS Tape Job should start to run also on Friday?

Situation now:
Synthetic Full is starting on Friday 10:00 pm. The GFS Tape Job ist Starting Saturday 00:00. GFS Tape Job i s waiting for 24 Hours and will create a Synthetic Full for weekly Backup.

Backup this Week GFS Tape starting at 00:00 on Saturday.

Starting 00:00 i will see this Entry:
20.02.2016 00:00:40 :: Source backup files detected. VBK: 0, VBK map: 0, VIB: 0

For 26 Hours:

20.02.2016 00:00:40 :: Source job retry is required. Waiting...

After then:
20.02.2016 22:36:11 :: Full backup from Daily Backup Job2016-02-20T220052.vib (20.02.2016 00:00:00) restore point will be placed to weekly media set
20.02.2016 22:36:11 :: Source backup files detected. VBK: 0, VBK map: 1, VIB: 0

There are similar issues reported in the adjacent thread - the full backup created on a previous day doesn't get archived to GFS media pool. As far as I know, the issue is still under investigation.

Within your case It might be worth making a references to the tickets mentioned in the said thread.
