feature request: file exclusions for Mac agent

Post by ColterT »

[Completed Case # 04856432]

I would like to add a feature request to Veeam Agent for Mac (using v 1.0.0.713) or the Veeam Service Provider Console which I use to manage this Veeam Agent:
1. An ability to omit temporary files that aren’t able to be backed up by the time the agent starts backing up the files
2. Alternatively an ability to use Veeam Service Provider Console/VAM to, when defining the backup scope, allowing paths and filetypes rather than just filetype masks to be excluded explicitly (Edit Job > Backup Mode > Selected Files & Files > exclusion settings in “Advanced…”)

What I'm seeing on two of my Macs I've deployed the software to are daily warnings of a temp file that cannot be accessed for some reason though it's initially recognized as "to be backed up":

Job session for "<hostname>" finished with warning.
Failed to backup [/Users/<username>/Library/News/com.apple.news.public-com.apple.news.private-production/referralItems/com.apple.news.widget/today--systemLarge-697265E2-0EF7-44F1-93C8-FDA3A2E9E991/1AE245A5-D293-4D0E-96D6-D38D65589A9C].
Failed to backup [/Users/<username>/Library/News/com.apple.news.public-com.apple.news.private-production/referralItems/com.apple.news.widget/today--systemLarge-697265E2-0EF7-44F1-93C8-FDA3A2E9E991/5C9A60F3-AFBF-444D-AAFC-EE3F58104979].
...
followed by about 50 more of the same message.

What I've found I have to do according to support is, "Create the file level backup and manually exclude the news folders for any users , then let the job run." Except one cannot manually exclude a folder unless they have also manually included all other folders in the agent's backup directory, which in my case was over 100 and I've just found a 2nd agent with the same problem meaning I have to specify 200+ folders. Anyway the recommendation resolves the warning but it's a very heavy-handed fix so I'd love to see some sleek resolution. Thanks for hearing me out and have a great day!

Hi Colter,

Thank you for this feature request!
We also have a similar request for the folders' exclusions.

Speaking of VSPC, such exclusions can be supported when this feature is realized in VAM.
Cannot share any ETA though.

Thanks!
