Disk (Imported) parent encrypted backup not found. please check db
Hello,
we've Veeam BB&R v10 (2020.12.02)
We're moving all the backups from an old storage to a new one.
We're using this procedure for the backups:
1. "remove from configuration" of the backup ("Disk")
2. move the folder of the backup to the new storage
3. rescan the new storage
4. import the backup from "Disk (Encrypted)"
5. change the "Backup repository" and "Map backup"
and this procedure for the CopyJob:
1. disable the Copyjob
2. "remove from configuration" of the CopyJob ("Disk (Copy)")
3. change the "Backup repository" (on the "Target")
4. Enable the CopyJob
For the copyJob we don't move tha data, because I've seen that when I rescand the new storage, I don't find the copyjob info on the "Disk (Encrypted)" or "Disk (Imported)".
The procedure seems to work fine, except that this morning we've the error "Parent encrypted backup not found. please check db" by going under "Disk (Encrypted)", and we can do nothing.
What we can do to solve it?
Thanks in advance for the help

Hello,
yes, solved (closed on Jun 21, 2021).
I don't remember was we've done, and at the moment I don't see more info on the support site (just the basic info).
And I don't have emails about the Case (that's strange because usually I don't delete them).
Sorry

Hi James
I can see our customer support suggested db modifications in Gianluca's case.
Please open a support case yourself and let them check if you are affected by the same issue.
Without the logs we cannot tell if the issue is fixed in newer versions or if DB modifications are required.
Best,
Fabian

Yes, this proved to be the situation for me too. Support was able to run a DB query which resulted in the backups being split up. But thankfully, we were able to remove them from configuration and then rescan them successfully without the DB issue happening again.

I had the same issue today. I removed all the visible imported backups from the configuration.
The encrypted backup was not shown so i wasn't able to remove it.
Reimporting did not work because the backup already existed (although still invisible).
I restarted all Veeam services an d was able to successfully dcrypt the now visible backup.
Maybe this helps.

Re: Disk (Imported) parent encrypted backup not found. please check db
hello,
what I've done when we solved my problem (seen the message that I've written to the support)
what I've done when we solved my problem (seen the message that I've written to the support)
hope this can help someoneThis morning, taking advantage of the fact that 4 weeks have passed since we started to migrate to the new Storage, and above all that our Retention policy is 4 weeks, I started to clean the old Storage Folders that are no longer useful, because we already have the correct period on the new Storage .
When performing a Rescan, jobs appeared in “Disk (Encrypted)” (without the error).
I entered the password in all the Jobs, one by one, and strangely enough, I was left with “Disk (Encrypted)” empty, but without errors.
I continued with the cleaning, and after another rescan, more Jobs appeared. Re-entered the password in all, and now the “Disk (Encrypted)” has disappeared.
I would say the problem went away on its own with the cleaning.

Going to add this one to this page for anyone else who stumbles upon this issue in the future. The powershell work around in Veeam 12 is to run the following if you encounter this in the UI.
To workaround the problem, we can provide the password using PS:
Get-VBRImportedEncryptedBackup -Name mycoolbackupjobname | % {Set-VBREncryptedBackupPassword -Backup $_}
In case you need a backup name, then Get-VBRImportedEncryptedBackup - this command will give a list of the imported backups.
To start PS:
