Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
I would not do this personally, I can see how this will brake quite a few things too. I'd say, try updating hosts file with old name to start with. If this does not help, better rollback the change. Or re-deploy the product from scratch on renamed machine. Or work with support to find and update all reference (this will take a while since there is no documented procedure today I believe). Thanks!

Currently I just rename server back, and all back to work.
Just still want to rename host no emergencies.

Is this still relevant for v6? I have a customer that wants to change the name of his backup server and wants to know of it would work. No proxies and a cifs repository. He said he would be able to change SQL.

[MERGED] Re: Rename Virtual Machine name in VCenter
Not directly related to the initial question but change of virtual machine name as well. Can one change the VEEAM B&R server name itself?

[MERGED] Veeam Backup and Recovery 6.5 Server Rename
Recently I needed to rename a Veeam Backup and Recovery 6.5 Patch 3 Server (Local SQL Instance), however I could not find a post that covered all aspects, So I have put this small guide together in order to help anyone who may find themselves in the same situation.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome
Backup and Recovery Server 6.5
1. Rename the server in the Windows Operating System using the usual method.
3. Change registry items
\\HKLM\Software\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Recovery\SqlServerName
\\HKLM\Software\VeeaM\Veeam Backup Catalog\SqlServerName (Should be local)
\\HKLM\Software\VeeaM\Veeam Backup Reporting\SqlServerName (Should be local)
\\HKLM\Software\VeeaM\Veeam Backup Reporting\XMLURL (http://yourserver.yourdomain.xx)
4. Restart Server
5. Check the SQL Server name has changed.
6. Check the Veeam Services.
Enterprise Manager
1. Uninstall the Enterprise Manager from Control Panel.
2. Open IIS and delete the Self Sign Certificate for the old server name.
3. Reinstall the Enterprise Manager component. This will connect to the existing SQL database created previously and recreate a new Self Sign Certificate.
4. Open Enterprise Manager and Edit the Backup Server Settings name.

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
This is an old thread, but one simple and supported way these days is to deploy new server with the correct name, install Veeam there, and use configuration backup and restore to move all the configuration from old server there. Configuration backup and restore feature is available starting version 6.5

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
I should have read this before I changed the host name. Just ran into the same issue.
@Gostev: Shouldn't Veeam come up with an easier way to manage this? Seems like a bit much to have to deploy a new server just to correct a hostname issue.

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
Hi Zach, it's all about priorities - and this is simply not a common enough request/procedure to justify spending R&D time on. As you can see, just a few posts in this topic in the past few years - while any features in high demand usually generate 5-10 pages in a single year. Plus, the added value to the product is almost non-existent. In other words, no one will buy the product because we added this feature. Hope this makes sense!

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
I had problems after renaming the host name...
Even uninstalling Veeam failed. (I wont be able to restart a service)
My particular problem after renaming the host (wouldn't start the service) or uninstalling Veeam(wouldn't restart the same service), was that my user password had change...
Windows services stores the user password that enables to start the service.
I had to edit the service setting and update the user password.
I also edited the host file and added the older name of machine.
All works now.
@ Gostev
It is your job has product "owner" to release all documentation to properly manage the tools.
It is not the client who should do some kind of forum or similar research to find out how to resolve some issue that should be documented the at first.

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
Despite it 's a bit of an old post I want to thank stefanbrun for showing the way
I am running Enterprise version 7.0.0.871 at a customer.
We also renamed a server and VeeAm stopped working .....
Why did we rename ? Just because we wanted to
Always hate applications which do not allow/support you to rename a server
Anyway I change old server values into the new name, rebooted and it worked !

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
I, too, just renamed our backup server (new server naming structure) and wish I'd found this before emailing support for such a simple fix.
Support only told me to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Replication\SqlServerName. I did that, and backups started running again.
But I found this thread just now, and took it a step further: I just searched the entire registry for the old servername and found it lurking in many places...both VBR and non-VBR related. Changed it everywhere and rebooted, and now I'm confident the name has been changed for sure.
I would suggest everybody who has renamed their server do the same!

[MERGED] Rename host Veeam B&R
I changed the name to the computer where I installed B & R and One.
Now once restarted, will not start the Veeam Veeam Backup Service or Cloud Connect Service.
The SQL agent ( installed on the same machine and the default) is stopped.
How do I change the name of the SQL instance ?

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
Just to add-on, I encountered an error "Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller" when trying to install update 1.
Tried to disable UAC, run as admin, grant my domain account as owner of the folders, ... nothing works.
Only managed to install the update by running as the installation as SYSTEM account.
1) Download psexec from Microsoft
2) Run "psexec.exe /sid powershell.exe" in command prompt
3) Trigger the installation inside the powershell

Re: How to rename veeam backup server host?
Thanks guys for this Post.
I can confirm that changing the registry settings still works in version 9.
Out of all the systems I just had to rename, including the Domain controllers, mail servers, etc., the Veeam backup server was the last one I would have though would have given me problems.
There are so many reasons people want/need to rename servers. Veeam was the only application that would not start after the renaming. I also find most applications that connect to a database when they can't find said database request you to input the new location.
I am posting a reply so that Veeam my include this ability in future releases.

Hi!
I also have to change our server name. Reading through this post I guess it should be a doable with some registry changes.
In addition I have to change the server's domain. Is this possible?
