When will Pure support this? We thought it was but found i was never finished. We have a pure storage array we want to start using this with.

We don't give any estimations, as you can see from the thread above. However, thanks for your vote.

+1 for (any) integration with Nutanix. I know this thread is about storage snapshots, but anything we can do to get Veeam to support Acropolis (Nutanix's branch of KVM) would be amazing. That is really the last thing we need to move off of vSphere!

+1 for Nimble

We have Nimble storage throughout our production environment and DR site. I love both Nimble and Veeam products but will probably need to drop one of them in the next year if Veeam doesn't plan on integrating with Nimble. We run production 24x7 and need to really move the route of storage level backups.

So currently the Nimble's have issues with Veeam? I assume you are already doing direct SAN backups? What is bothering you most?

Currently we do Direct SAN backups indeed and we have quite some happy customers using Nimble. As far as I know there are no major issues known and it works fine. The request for an integration may not be related to issues but the ease of use on storage snapshots making it possible to make multiple backups a day without causing a huge impact on the VMware snapshot point of view.

Another option, now that it seems that Nimble is finally releasing their VVOLs support, is to switch to this technology, or at least to try it.
VVOLs uses a completely different snapshot mechanism that heavily reduces (I'd say it removes, but it then depends on the underlying storage vendor) the penalty in performance when running a VM from a vmware snapshot.

I continue to get bombarded with requests for an ETA on when Veeam will support Tegile IntelliFlash for storage snapshots. Please bump this up in the queue.

Hi, everyone. We've listened to you and today, we are announcing our next integration target - Nimble!
Advanced Integration with Nimble Storage coming in Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 for VMware

Thanks everyone for taking time to post your opinion in this topic, as this was certainly one of the metrics we have considered when making the choice. As you can see from this topic, Nimble has been the clear leader by the sheer amount of requests.

We're planning to start the private beta for this integration in the beginning of June, so if you are interested please contact your Veeam sales representative with the quick description of your Nimble deployment for a chance to be selected as one of the beta participants for your region.

Great news Anton! I know many of us have been waiting for a while for this. Now that we can stop bugging you about adding Nimble support, we just need to switch to bugging about v9.5's release date! :)

Thanks again for this!

It will take quite a while to implement nimble until fully supported. At this rate VMWARE may change how they take snapshots or maybe another tech will come along until we'll see more manufacturers included.

Full nimble support will be in v9.5 as mentioned in the announcement. VMware won't change snapshot technology quickly and vVols still has an uncertain future. Even if they stick with it the adoption rate will be slow.

In vSphere 6.0 they changed the way they commit snapshots improving commit times drastically. We saw incremental improvements from 5.0 to 6.0 and that is why I mentioned that at this rate, storage integration may not be so attractive. And yes, I am annoyed Tintri didn't make it seeing how their appliance is more integrated with vSphere and HyperV than any other. No LUN actions, only VM operations. Was hoping that all three (Tegile, Nimble, Tintri) will be included in the next version... but I think about promoting capable and disruptive tech not support storage behemoths (see EMC).

While it is true they did some optimisations in vSphere 6 there are still snapshot commit issues. Storage integration adds extra possibilities as well such as On-demand sandbox from Storage Snapshots :-)

Yeah, rub it in...

Just kidding. Of course there are a lot of advantages of having this integration. But in our case we don't see them as being critical as some SAN owners here. Having SyncVM really helped us reduce RPO and mainly RTO. Regarding snapshot committing, we haven't had any issues so far.

I actually agree with VladV (sorry Niels). VM snapshot became much better in vSphere 6.0, and so if previously you really needed storage snapshot for zero impact backup of 90% of your VMs, with vSphere 6 you will probably want it for 10% of your VMs only - those very I/O intensive (and not every customer may even have such workloads in the first place).

And this is exactly why we are going beyond just backup from primary storage snapshots with this integration! Note what you guys are talking about is just 1 of 3 major features of this integration. More like 50% of one feature even, considering backup from secondary storage - which is a much bigger deal to me! Although obviously, they are all higher-end enterprise focused features - I don't expect typical SMB users to care about most of them. Which is why this functionality is only available in Enterprise Plus edition to start with ;)

Don't hold your breath - the platform is going EOL. Not to mention I belive Veeam tried to impliment with them first but found as everyone knows, the snapshot design sucks due to large block sizes.

Personally I am running an EQL and just installed a Nimble array. :D

+1 for Nutanix DSF Integration

Direct-NFS in v9 was a nice step, now you should look at the filesystem snaps itself...Nutanix has a strong backup integration with commvault, also a Hardware VSS Integration is allready there, many of my Nutanix/Veeam customers would be happy :-)

Thanks!
