Static vPower NFS Export

Post by ferrus »

We use static NFS exports from our Veeam repositories, instead of the default dynamic one.
It's been a while since I last set one of these up, but I can't seem to get it working on a new Veeam server.

I've added the following registry key, and restarted the vPower NFS service:

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Veeam\Veeam NFS\Shared Folders\{random guid}, REG_SZ: nfsFolderName=/VeeamBackup_SERVERNAME
From a remote client, I can see the NFS service running with rpcinfo -p servername, but the export isn't listed with showmount -e servername and the mount fails.
Is there any steps I'm missing?

I would recommend contacting support for a closer look. Btw, what is the reason of using static exports in your case?

The original reason - which we've had in place for years, was a fix I found on these forums.

When you have multiple NICs in the Veeam server - to avoid the vmkernel traffic being routed, you have to manually mount the NFS exports in vCentre (using the IP address of the Veeam NIC assigned for NFS/vmkernel traffic).
But for this to work - it seems to need the static export in the registry (dynamic Veeam export doesn't seem to work for manual vCentre NFS mounts).

I'd also like to be able to use the the NFS export for dumping RMAN backups, from our physical Oracle servers.
Unfortunately, we can't wait any longer for the Veeam RMAN plugin, or keep our old backup software licensed - so this would be our best workaround.

Here's the original description of the manual NFS method:

I can't remember whether this bug was ever fixed in subsequent releases - so a reminder for anyone reading, who has to use the method above ...

Got it. I need to ask QA to check whether this workaround is still applicable. Should you have any information on this from your support engineer, please share.
