Veeam Explorer - the ldap server is unavaiable
Hi.
We are testing the Veeam Explorer for Active Directory in our datcenter. the veeam server can reach the customers domain controller, and can also telnet port 389 and 636.
Still we get the "ldap server is unavaiable" when we try to restore to original location.
Any idea what could cause this?

Frank, please make sure all the ports listed in the corresponding section of the user guide (find the AD Explorer table below) are open.

I can confirm I can telnet into all these ports from the Veeam server.

You can try perform restore via Restore Wizard (unless you already use it), where you can specify DC and Global Catalog servers manually. If this doesn't help, I recommend contacting support.

Could be DNS issue too.

Restore Wizard? if you mean by file restore that went well with windows files. Exchange also works. It is just the Active DIrectory that has this problem. Its the same way for all our customers in our datecenter. The firewall is actually brand open to all customer during testing, dns is working fine with both servername and servername.contoso.com (example domain). Windows firewall is also open.
Will try to open a ticket to see what is going on and post the results here.

Actually, when i tried the restore TO.. instead of directly restore I could select the name of a domainserver instead of just the domain name.
Then it went straight away, so this was my mistake.
And by the way, the possibilites in this ad-restore is just AMAZING and worth the price of the Veeam alone!

This was that Restore Wizard I was talking about (as alternative to using the Restore to "domain" option).frankive wrote:Actually, when i tried the restore TO.. instead of directly restore I could select the name of a domainserver instead of just the domain name.

Foggy: Yeah, I saw the restore wizard was mentioned in the title-window when I did the restore, but forgot to mention it in my answer, so you provided me with the correct answer. As you always do
Thanks!
Gostev: I showed the capabilities of the ad-restore to some IT-colleagues and they were totally amazed by how far the technology has come. You are WAY ahead of the competitors.

There is one small drawback by this, it can't compare the backup to the production.
Is it because the veeam server is not part of the customers Vms?
even it asks about username and password I think he actually compares to wrong domain or at least to the wrong hardcore domain address

This is most likely caused by the same DNS issue. Have you tried to point it to the right DC via hosts file?
