NDMP Setting for Netapp restoration

Post by Damienf »

Hello,

I am trying Netapp restoration feature on Veeam free edition to see if it can help some of my customers.

I try it on FAS with no license for flexclone or snaprestore. So Veeam try to make restoration trough NDMP.
I made NDMP setting on the FAS. And I try the restoration from snapshot but it failed...

May I miss some configuration on veeam because I can see where i can set the NDMP user and password? I try the restoration from FAS discovered with the root account and with spécial account create just for veeam ( with administrator right on the FAS)

in both cas I get following error :
on Veeam :

Code: Select all

08/12/2014 17:26:10 Starting VM Test-IOmeter01_restoree recovery
08/12/2014 17:26:52 Connecting to host esx01.customer.local

On FAS :

Code: Select all

The issue should be near NDMP authentication. But I can see where I can change NDMP info in veeam. Maybe there is a tip on FAS to bypass the authentication…
Any help will be appreciated

i miss to give a important information. I use vFiler.
If I test the same manipulation in vfiler0 ( default) it's working properly.

the the issue come from NDMP setting and non default vfiler

Hi Damien,

Thanks for the heads up, our dev team has confirmed this behavior. Currently there is an issue when non-default vfiler is used, which we are going to address in our next updates.

Thanks!

BTW, can you please open a support case and submit all your debug log files to make sure we do not miss anything while fixing this behavior?

for a non-root user, you need to create a separate NDMP password with the following command:

Code: Select all

ndmpd password <username>
try with the generated NDMP password.

I am having the exact same issue running version 8.0.0.2030. I have opened a ticket and Veeam has told me to have netapp look at this issue but I don't think its a netapp problem. I am using the root user to do the recovery. I can see the folder get created on the filer and veeam copies around 20gb of data before the error happens. Is there any update on this?

Yes, the issue lies in the default timeout set in the NDMP library of NetApp. Currently we are investigating possible workarounds for this.
