Mac already has at least three excellent options. Time Machine for the very simple needs and SuperDuper for more advanced needs. Arq is great for cloud based backup (mostly for user data, not bare metal, and offers encryption prior to leaving the local computer).

I am sure there are others, but I know about these three and they cover all my Mac backup needs.

OSX Support would be a great addition, it would be the selling point that makes me purchase licenses when this goes GA. We don't have a whole lot of use for Windows-based endpoint backup because our users are pretty good at keeping stuff on the server and even if they weren't I could use folder redirection to basically force it. We do have some issues with OSX though, more specifically Outlook for Mac requires that archived email be stored locally on the Mac without an option to specify an alternate location, and I have yet to find a solid system to backup the three Macs we have.

I am so sorry for them. I can understand using Android-based systems as a desktop, but Linux as a desktop... always makes me wonder how people have so much spare time to afford that. And what are they doing exactly with it (aside of browsing/email), considering severe lack of applications, and a few existing ones being so cumbersome.

Also, I would like to understand how much is "alot" in your definition? Because even working in hardcore IT company, I see only a handful of those people (and in fact, one of them has just escaped back to the Windows world).

Now, don't get me wrong - I am not some Linux hater, and I am talking about desktops only here... using Linux as a server is a totally different story.

I use Ubuntu. I have seen people using Ubuntu as a desktop. Alot of applications are in cloud now, so Linux would work better and it doesn't use alot of resources so you can get a low spec system to run Linux.

I have to agree with Gostev, supporting Linux seems like it would take a lot away from basic feature development when in reality almost nobody uses Linux as end-points. Yes, many applications are in the cloud these days, but that also means the data is stored in the cloud, so backups are not an issue. I have enough problems getting my end users to use Windows properly, I can't imagine the nightmare if we had to support Linux. Windows licenses are not expensive, and they are very lightweight. You can have old computers from 2006 running Windows 7 home edition without any issues and very little cost.

Perhaps the user segmentation for Linux users may be small, but for dual boot machines, you can use it successfully.

Initially, the software will not see/browse ext3/4 partitions (since Windows cannot either), however if you install a service such as Ext2Fsd (you can check it out here: http://www.ext2fsd.com/), the software WILL see and backup up those volumes successfully. Most EXT services are set for read-only tho, (the one I linked can be set to read/write).

Tested with:
Win7 x64/Ubuntu 14.04 LTS dual boot (separate drives for each install)
EXT2FSD installed
Used Volume Backup of Linux partition to external drive
Restored via FLR and Volume Restore.

Hi,

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned before, but I just wanted to see if there is any known plans for Linux servers to be integrated into Veeam Endpoint backup ?
This would give a total backup solution for Veeam customers - as in my opinion Physical linux servers (such as management servers, NTP, DNS etc) aren't going anywhere soon.

For us, the best would be Ubuntu 12.04/14.04 LTS server versions (and perhaps CentOS thrown in there as well). We don't actually run any Linux Endpoints as such. But hopefully the implementation would support both desktop/server...

When it comes to physical Linux servers, they are really very basic. Management severs are more just jumphosts (SSH, Sendmail etc). DNS servers are running PowerDNS/BIND and NTP servers just basic NTP.
The only other thing would be physical NFS/file servers, but s far as I'm aware it's possible to backup those with existing Veeam B&R functionality ?

No, it's not, Veeam B&R can be used to backup VMs only, however there are file copy jobs that can get these files from file servers. Thanks for the feedback on Linux backup functionality!

50% of our physical environment is Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS machines. Supporting current Ubuntu flavors would be a HUGE feature for us.

For me they are all desktops except for a single Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server.
