Thanks for the email feature guys. I would like to only trigger an email in case that the backup fails. Is this possible to add as a feature?

Best,
Tim

Hi Tim,

You are welcome. Sure, it possible - just set to the ‘Notify on’ option of Email Notifications to Error only.

[MERGED] Endpoint 1.5 email notification

Post by millardjk » 1 person likes this post

While I like the addition of configurable notification, the design decision to use the same email address for both sender & recipient is annoying enough that I'm not going to use the feature at all. I expect to set the following: multiple recipients, from name & address, SMTP & SMTP authentication. This way I can have both a central admin address as well as an individual address (ie, send the report to the admin group and the endpoint owner), and the unique "from" information makes it faster to segregate than using subject line parsing.

[MERGED] Endpoint 1.5 email notification

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your feedback, much appreciated. This new feature was aimed at home users, that's why there is no central admin email address option.

Thanks!

+1 on what millardjk said.

Although it's not THAT annoying to me that I tell myself if a backup errors or fails via e-mail.

Thanks

Guys,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Can you elaborate why setting a mailbox rules (i.e. to forward some reports to one mailbox and rest to another) or using a distribution lists to deliver email reports to specific scope of recipients is not a feasible solution? Thanks.

I already have mailbox rules that handle my Veeam B&R notifications, which *do* have the specific options for configuring robust connectivity to an SMTP server, plus "from" and "to" options. Having Endpoint configured in the same way (including the suppression options) makes for consistency across the products if nothing else.

From an individual user perspective, I also have Endpoint running on several machines, both multiples that I use myself and 'singletons' that are nominally assigned to a family member, but are managed by me. Being more explicit in handling the "from" address--even if "to" can only be a single recipient--would help a great deal.

For the email option would like to see a "From:" option. When putting in your own email address it shows coming from yourself on the Notification versus the actual Veeam Server. Potential enhancement? :)

Even though we've unchecked the success option on our machines, we're still getting email notifications that only contain successes. Is this a bug, or are we missing some other configuration option?

It is a fairly straight forward configuration but I believe the intent was to supply home users an easy method of notifications. The expectation may be that larger customers / businesses will have a Veeam Backup server in which the Endpoints would use the repositories as well as the email notifications from the Veeam server itself.

I don't want to discourage feature requests with detailed use cases, but I think there needs to be perspective of why the email was implemented the way it was in the latest version.

Cheers!

Welcome khensel!
Are you backing up to a repository or some other storage device?
Can you open a case through the Control Panel so the support team can see whats going on, please remember to post the case ID.

Cheers!

[MERGED] set different sender Email address

Post by GL@MO »

Good morning,

Is it possible to set a different sender email address for VEB? At the moment it is the same than my recipients email address and in my configuration it is a distribution group.
I normally sign the senders Email Address with the device name where it is coming from.

if not: feel free to use this as a feature request :D

Thanks for any help!

Guido

Hi Guido,

Currently its not possible, so your workaround to use the distribution list seems to be valid. As for the name of the machine information – it should be included into email notification subject by default.

Thumbs up for the feature, I've tested it now a few days and I really like it in fact except for one little thing.
Yes it had been spoken, but it is the "from" feature.
In our case we have a mailbox where all emails from vbr and veb and even other backup solutions are coming from.
We have a script that puts the mail in the folder for the customer and our monitoring is scanning those for the status of the backup.
So this is why I for myself would like to have this option because the script is going through "where does it come from" "what says the subject" "alright, move to this folder".
Simple said. For now we are taking the script I wrote, there is the from and to option included and it works great. We do integrate veb to vbr in this case there is no need for that option but some customers do not have vbr not even esx or hyper-v and we made really positive results with veb.
So yes I would have it as a feature request and hey, when I can achieve it with a script, I think you can do this easily, too :)

Yup, it’s possible. There is a separate topic you can check for the script examples.

[MERGED] VEP 1.5 E-mail Notifications - Multiple Recipients

Post by rsmith.rdi »

The new native e-mail notification is awesome. The report looks just like a VBR notification... BUT! There needs to be support for multiple e-mail addresses. Sometimes a distribution list doesn't include everyone that needs to be notified. Example... internal recipients and an external contractor with a e-mail outside of the primary recipient domain.

[MERGED] Email notification settings.

Post by pawell »

Hi. I have a couple of questions about email notification.
1) Is there any way to specify sender's e-mail address that will be different from recipient's address? Now I get mails from me about backup status and it is confusing me.
2) Is there any way to deploy email notification config across all my servers? Config file or something like that.

Not at this moment, and I don't know if it is planned in the future or not.

Best is to work with a distribution group for now

cheers

[MERGED] Send emails to a different email address

Post by mvalpreda »

Trying to set up email notifications on Endpoint Backup. I want to have emails come from backups@domain-a.com and go to alerts@domain-b.com. Is that possible? Or do the notifications always go to the same email that generates them?

Do this so I can sort the backup alerts from different customers.

Yes, you can use distribution groups for that in the current release.
