Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
Hey there
First time post, apologies if this is the wrong place to ask!
I'm currently looking at alternative ways to manage backups for office 365 share point site collections and wondering if Veeam supports this feature yet?
If not, is it currently in the works for a future patch?
Thanks,

Hi, Beau. There is not such feature today - and while we're looking at Office 365 but there's no concrete plans around SharePoint that I could share yet. Thanks!

Veeam has 99.9% of things covered but for everything else SharePoint related that it doesn't backup/handle I use: http://www.avepoint.com/products/office ... anagement/
Been using parts of their SharePoint solution for years with good results.

[MERGED] office 365 sharepoint
hi,
i saw last week that 365 email backups are coming soon, this is great but what i would like to know is what is planned for sharepoint 365? i have spent the last 18 months moving away from emc backup products but we are moving heavily into sharepoint online and onedrive. Now i have to look into a way to backup the cloud. i then get emc all over my director talking about spanning which i am now having to look into.
i assume its on the roadmap (if it is not then i would say thats stupid), if not it needs to be coming out asap, version 10 maybe!

Re: office 365 sharepoint
As mentioned in the latest forum digest, the first version of the given solution won't support SharePoint, nor will it support OneDrive.
As to the further plans, those are yet to be defined. Nevertheless, your feedback helps us to prioritize upcoming features, so it keep coming.
Thanks.

I`m voting for this aswell, SharePoint/Onedrive is a big part of the Office 365 offering.

What is more important for you to come first, OneDrive or SharePoint support?

As I understand it, onedrive for business seems to make more use of sharepoint anyway?Gostev wrote:What is more important for you to come first, OneDrive or SharePoint support?

Add me to the list as well. 365 email is a start but the addition of files (one drive and SharePoint) would be a big plus for us.

Re: Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
gostev, for us i would say sharepoint followed by one drive soon after. what makes all this harder is that veeam is very secret with its development. i get that but we work a lot on road maps and we do a lot of purchasing based on existing functional sets and what is going to be added in the future. at the moment all i can say to my directors is veeam cant tell me anything.... response from directors, lets get spanning. if i could give the information they needed they would be willing to wait as long as they have the information.

Re: Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
Well, taking of my Veeam hat I think your directors are absolutely right - you can't really stay without backup, and Veeam doesn't have a solution for Office 365 SharePoint at the moment, so you do need to get something else (at least until we release the solution that fits your needs). Even if I told you our road map - those future offerings can't protect your existing Office 365 data today, right?

Re: Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
no you are right, at the moment though we are in the process of a large move to office 365, at the moment the defaults are adequate until someone makes that executive decision about cloud retention policies. once the move is fully complete then i imagine a solution will be looked at (a bit backwards i know but that's life). This roll out is going to take at least 6/8 months. even if i have a comment like.... it is planned for Q2 next year it would be helpful. this would mean we would not need to spend time looking at other solutions and allow us to keep investing in the products we have e.g. veeam.

Re: Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
Understood, but I would hate to accidentally set false expectations, as plans change all the time (we like to stay nimble).
Our rule is to only talk about next version's capabilities when we're close to feature complete of the corresponding release (normally 3-6 months before GA). Not only because we don't like to sell future, but because we hate to [accidentally] lie to our customers about features and dates - and thus lose trust. Trust is most important - we'd rather lose you to the competition but keep your trust, than the other way around. Because with trust in place, we can always get you back - especially in this new no-commitment world of subscription-based licensing.
That said, I can certainly confirm that both SharePoint and OneDrive support are close to the top of our priorities list, which in fact was just agreed upon earlier today with all stakeholders. But, a lot will depend on v1 feedback - starting from public beta later this month.

I would also look forward to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint backup being added to this offering. I've got several clients who don't yet take advantage of either of those products, but as they look to use them, it would be perfect to be able to use Veeam for all their Office 365 backup needs.

Re: Feature Request - Backup of Office 365 Sharepoint
Karl,
Do you think having backup available for SharePoint and OneDrive will give you an extra advantage in convincing them (as a consultant or partner...) in starting to use those products? Sounds like a stupid question but I hear from time to time that O365 is not considered because of backup and wanted to verify if this is also the case with your customers?
