Settings of Full Backup changed after Update 9.5
Hi,
just wondering if anyone else has experienced a settings change in some of his Backup Jobs after the Update to 9.5?
Usually we are running a monthly full Backup Job on the last Sunday, after checking the Backup Logs today we noticed that Veeam only did an incremental Backup.
Checking the job, the active full setting was set to first monday in month not last sunday in month, hence the backup needs to be done again.
Same for my yearly backup job. And the schedule of this yearly job is also wrong. Job settings are set to first saturday in january, but next run would be 5th December 2016.
Thx
Peter

Re: Settings of Full Backup changed after Update 9.5
We always tend to preserve existing settings as is during upgrade process. So, are you positive the described change has been done by VB&R itself, not by someone else (either manually via GUI or automatically via script)? Thanks.

Hello Markus,
It doesn`t sound normal. Let us double-check the behaviour.
Thanks!

We upgraded a couple of test systems last week. Just checked the active full schedules, and they all show "First Monday" now. I hadn't spotted this until I read this post.

LOL. Do we get a spot on the newsletter for that again since now finally a slightly bigger bug has been found?

Indeed the issue is not known yet.
Could you guys tell from what product version you were upgrading and which active full schedule you had before the upgrade?
Thank you!

Re: All active full schedules reset with 9.5?
We have this issue on a new implementation which hasn't gone fully into production yet (fortunately we haven't upgraded our main production system yet). This system had been installed as 9.0, then update 2 was applied. We are still in the process of testing, and have several jobs set up with weekly synthetic full plus a monthly active full. The week day for synthetic/active full for each job was spread across the week. We then upgraded this to 9.5. The synthetic full dates remain correct, but all active full dates are now set to "First Monday".
I will raise a ticket as this needs fixing before we can upgrade in production.

Re: All active full schedules reset with 9.5?
Thank you Martin!
QA team has made testing and confirmed the bug. Unfortunately previous job schedule cannot be easily restored since it`s re-written in the database. However, if you have configuration backup it may help.
We will try to fix the bug as soon as possible.

Re: All active full schedules reset with 9.5?
Would upgrading, then immediately restoring from a configuration backup be a valid work-around? I'm not sure I feel particularly comfortable with this approach.
Having to manually reset all active full dates on our production system might be preferable, but isn't an extra job that I relish the thought of either.
Will there be a patch fix for this one, since it may be a show-stopper for many people.

Martin, we`ve just found and confirmed the bug. Let us find, test and confirm the workaround.
We`ll update the topic when we have more information.
Thanks!

We also did an upgrade from 9 Update 2 directly to 9.5.
Edit: Since we manually corrected everything should i still open a case?

So what is the workaround for this as I noticed today all my backups are set to run a Full on the First Monday of every month. That explains so slowness.

Hello Chris, we are still working on it. Please be patient. How many jobs with active full backup do you have?

There are 43 jobs but I have recently changed some to Synthetic Fulls instead of Active Fulls so maybe 35 now.

[MERGED] DB restore loses Active Full Backup schedule
Last week I upgraded our VBR installation from 9.0 to 9.5.
I could not get the upgrade to work and had to open a support case (case #01983603). It ended up being a conflict due to a previous "incomplete" install of SQL Server Express on the box.
To work around the issue, the support engineer confirmed that I had an up-to-date configuration database backup and then uninstalled all traces of SQL Server on the box.
This allowed the VBR 9.5 upgrade to complete successfully, after which support did a restore of our VBR configuration from the configuration database backup.
This morning when I started the day I noticed that my backups failed due to exceeding their allowed window, which led me to find that all my jobs attempted Full backups last night. (I only do Full backups on Friday nights on a rotating schedule).
I went into the job settings for all jobs and confirmed that all jobs are now set to do Active Full backups on the 1st Monday of every month...obviously not what they were set at before the configuration restore.
Is this part of the configuration not restored during a configuration backup restore?

Re: All active full schedules reset with 9.5?
Okay, after seeing my post above merged into this thread, I realize this is not an issue with the configuration restore, but with the 9.5 upgrade itself.
However it does answer the question "does restoring from an old config backup *AFTER* the 9.5 upgrade put the previous Active Full schedules back in place?" because that's exactly what we did and even after the configuration backup restore all jobs were still set to "Full backup on 1st Mondays of every month"

Re: All active full schedules reset with 9.5?
Here are some news.
The issue is confirmed, cause and boarders are found. It affects only monthly active full backup schedule, resetting it to the first Monday of the month, i.e. everyone who affected had the full backup this Monday.
The bug will be resolved in the first update. We are also making a hotfix for those who has already updated, it will be available via the support team, anticipatorily the next week. I will update the thread once Veeam support has the fix ready for you.

I thought you meant "No, it doesn't put the previous schedules back in place", but then wasn't sure you meant "No, it doesn't answer the question"foggy wrote:originally posted by LukeAd: However it does answer the question "does restoring from an old config backup *AFTER* the 9.5 upgrade put the previous Active Full schedules back in place?"
No, it doesn't.

Will the hotfix restore our previous schedules? If so, I will wait until the hotfix is ready. If not, I will just go in now and manually recreate the correct schedules for my jobs.Shestakov wrote:Here are some news.

The data is not lost completely, so most likely yes. Give us a couple of days to confirm and test that.LukeAd wrote:Will the hotfix restore our previous schedules?

Good news!
The hot fix is ready and available via Veeam support.
It recovers the active full schedule you had before the update.
Next update will also include it.
