Michael,

Can you please clarify: you get a cleaning warning after job is completed even though the cleaning was performed at the beginning of tape job? Thanks in advance.

I get the cleaning warning if the job detects that the drive needs cleaning part way through the job. Although the job finishes successfully the overall status is left at warning. The next tape job to start does successfully clean the drive before starting the rest of the job, which then completes with a status of success.

These screen shots probably explain it better...

This shows the job log with warning (and email notification with warning).

This shows just the job log successfully cleaning the tape before starting the rest of the job.

Michael,

Thanks for sharing. According to the screenshot warning was generated in the middle of the tape job and this behavior is correct. Would you like to perform addition cleaning check at the end of tape job?

Yes, in this situation it would be great if the job could clean the drive at the end of the copy. This would then result in a finished status of 'successful' rather than 'warning'.

Many thanks
Michael.

I have a company that uses an Overland NEO tape library for tape backup. It has worked great for years. They were upgraded to VEEAM B&R 9.5 a few weeks ago, and now there is an issue where the drive needs to be cleaned, but it isn't able to do it. Right now, the library is responsible to autoclean and the option in VEEAM to call for cleaning is unchecked. So this is how it was all along. I was just wondering if there are any known issues where now that this feature is available in VEEAM, has it caused any problems for tape libraries that are doing that role?

Hello Christensen,

When autocleaning is disabled, Veeam console does not track cleaning alerts and it should not affect native cleaning logic. Moreover, we do not recommend to use autocleaning both at library and at software level.
