[MERGED] Manual health check
Greetings,
I need to run a manual health check on a copy job. How can I do this either by GUI or PowerShell?
Thanks!

It's not the same thing, though, so, check this thread before choosing one approach or the other. Thanks!

Re: Manual health check?
Dear Veeam, why is it still not possible to configure within Veeam Backup a separate job for the health maintenance task? I am still hoping this will be added as a feature in a coming release. The health task is delaying chained backup jobs. Best, Fredo

Re: Manual health check?
Hello,
to answer the "why": because separate maintenance jobs with additional schedulers would create additional complexity. our goal is to avoid complexity.
chained jobs are not recommended... to avoid the delay I suggest to schedule the jobs something like this:
job 1: 10:00 pm
job 2: 10:01 pm
job 3: 10:02 pm
by doing that you get the required order and no delays due to maintenance tasks
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Manual health check?
I strongly disagree with this statement. The way it works now results in unexpected behavior, very long run time of jobs that can conflict with other jobs and is very inflexible. See previous posts including mine for examples.because separate maintenance jobs with additional schedulers would create additional complexity. our goal is to avoid complexity.
Please overthink your standpoint on this topic. More complexity means more control and more flexibility in this case.
Regards
Stephan

Re: Manual health check?
it's okay to disagree - I just gave you the answer for your "why is it the way it is"
As I mentioned earlier: if you want to do it manually with powershell you can run Veeam.Backup.Validator.exe with a powershell script and schedule it whenever you like

Re: Storage-level corruption guard
Hi Peter!
It's not possible to run health check as a separate task on-demand.
In case of primary backup job - it's performed at the end of backup job session, in case of backup copy job - it's performed at the beginning of new interval.
You may take a look at this thread, there are useful suggestions.
Thanks!

Re: Manual health check?
+1 Agree about separating out the file maintenance stuff from the backups. There is sometimes so much dead time between backups, that can be used effectively for these other tasks.

Re: Manual health check?
With V12 we can finally schedule health checks separately from the source job. Thank you for that. (Although it could have been done a lot better)
But why didn't 'Defragment and compact' get the same treatment? It's affected by the same issue people had with health checks.

Re: Manual health check?
at least on recommended file systems (XFS & REFS) the impact on defrag & compact is smaller because it uses fast cloning

Re: Manual health check?
True. But it's still very unreliable in running at all, if the job may finish before or after midnight. I mentioned this behavior in this thread almost 4 years ago: post332458.html#p332458
