You can try to enable symbolic name persistency using this regkey, which gives you slightly different symbolic name, then, try the said utility again and see whether it helps or not.

However, as it has been previously mentioned, I strongly suggest contacting IBM support with the original ITDT syntax issue and let them assist you in command writing process.

Thanks.

I too am agreeing with the need for the stand alone tapes to be able to be ejected (if selected). VEEAM says that the tape unload is processed thru the autoloader driver - which doesn't help if the drive doesn't have an autoloader or a driver for a nonexistent autoloader...

Search around and found nothing that will send the unload command from a command prompt. There are a few "tools" Quantums Xtalk and ITDT - but they can't be called from a post process or scheduled task.

Think this is a pretty inconvenient oversight on VEEAMs part - love everything else though!!! Customers, not IT people, just want to know that the next tape is needed - hence the little tape poking out of the drive - works perfectly for them to pull out and pop in the next. Most of my customers never see the desktop (and frankly I don't really want them there - but then again... more billable time hmmmmm).

Just my thoughts. Please fix it Veeam!

@wkmiller: I wrote a few posts above about a tool from Fujitsu which can be adressed via command prompt and can therefore be scheduled. Give it a try!

I’m wondering why you’ve mentioned that ITDT cannot be run as a scheduled task. As far as I know, ITDT is command-line utility that has supported scripting since 4.0 release. So, I believe, there shouldn’t be any issues with running cmd-utility via Windows Scheduler.

Moreover, devioctl tool might also do the trick.

Thanks.

We have added this functionality into Patch #1.
Thanks for your feedback, and sorry for this oversight.

Yes I have exactly the same issue, considering I am trailing this software again Acronis which I have working 100% correctly this is very poor that you can't do a simple thing like this without having to use another product and then script your own solution. Also the fact that the error message has spelling mistakes in it makes it look like you product was coded by somebody in a sweat shop who cant speak english and that the code checking process is poor.

Tape ejection is a fundermental yes/no the job was sucessful, for the average person who changes the tape everyday and isn't a "Rocket Scientist"

I aslo have another issue with the lack of Grandfather/Father/Son functionality, this is a fundermental function in a backup routine, yet you do not have it. To get anything like it you have to stuff around have three different back up jobs, run them on different days etc etc.

You want me to spend 5K on a solution?? These issues are not helping you to sell me the product, when are they going to be addressed???

Hi, Andrew.
I aslo have another issue with the lack of Grandfather/Father/Son functionality, this is a fundermental function in a backup routine, yet you do not have it.
As already mentioned above, eject functionality for standalone drives has been added in Patch #1.
Also the fact that the error message has spelling mistakes
Could you elaborate on what spelling mistake you’re referring to?
I aslo have another issue with the lack of Grandfather/Father/Son functionality
For now if you want to implement GFS rotation scheme on tape medias, you have to use certain workarounds. Though, thanks for the feedback regarding potential software improvements; much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi

The spelling mistake is here. FAILED not Faield

Faield to eject tape Error: Automated library not found (id: d89db16c-2d3d-4244-a84a-39b0bb37b425).

Thanks

There is always a possibility for spelling typo because software is written and tested by humans, not by robots. And since “eject” for standalone drives has been solved in patch#1, the said typo shouldn’t bother you any longer.

Thanks.

I have version 7.0.0.871 and my option to eject the tape is still greyed out?

Any ideas?

What type of tape device you have? Library or standalone? You're saying that if you go to the setting of your tape job (btw, is it file or backup to tape one?) you see the "eject media" option greyed out? Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply, It is a standalone drive.
No, I mean when I go to 'Backup Infrastructure/Tape/Tape Drive/Media/Online media' and right click, the option to eject tape is greyed out.

If you go to the said location, "eject media" will be greyed out, since this option is related to ejecting media to a slot and applicable only to libraries, not standalone drives. Thanks.

OK so then the question is, how do I eject tapes from stand alone drives?
If I press the eject button on the drive, I have to wait 5 minutes for it to eject, and I've also seen errors from veeam saying the tape was ejected manually while a write process was happening, even once the job was complete

The recommended approach is to choose required drive and select "eject" option. If you experience any issues with that scenario, you'd better discuss those with support team, as this may be a driver or hardware issue. Thanks.
