Backup Copy of Backup Files

Post by plansbergen »

I'm sure this setup goes against a lot of Best Practices but its what I'm working with for reasons.

3 Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 servers at separate locations send backups to repository server #1
4 Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 servers at separate locations send backups to repository server #2
2 Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 servers at separate locations send backups to repository server #3
All repository servers are in the same physical network

We'd like to do a Backup Copy job from the repository servers to a single offsite server (Repository server #4). Is there a way to do this without having to setup another backup copy job on the original Veeam servers? (ie: install Veeam on repository server, import backups and create backup copy job (which we tried and couldn't select imported backups as source).

Hi,
Is there a way to do this without having to setup another backup copy job on the original Veeam servers?
Unfortunately not. You have two options:

- setup Backup Copy jobs on the original VBR servers and point them to the server#4 (just mind the tasks limit).

- use File Copy jobs

Thanks

I was worried that was going to be the answer. We use reverse incrementals for a lot of jobs so file copy isn't a good option and due to bandwidth limitations we can't send a second backup from the original locations.

Well, there is a way, but not an easy one (and not entirely supported, to be honest). On the new Veeam B&R, you would need to create dummy jobs for each of the backup jobs, to further point your backup copy job to them, and script periodic repository rescans to pick up the latest restore points.
