[MERGED] Migrate backup respositry

Post by briggs »

Hi,
Simple question, simple problem.

I backup currently to network shares. Those shares are hosted on a NAS box. The NAS boxes are being replaced...

Is it a simple case of pausing all my jobs, copying all my data, and changing the repositry config in Veeam? Or is there a proper process to follow.
Thanks, Alan

[MERGED] Backup Copy clarification

Post by marius roma »

I need some clarification about backup copy.
Imagine a backup job that keeps 10 restore points on a given repository and a backup copy job that created 10 resotre points on a different repository.
I need to move all the backup copy data from the second repository to a third repository.
If I create a new backup copy job pointing to the third repository and start it, how many restore points should I expect to have on the third repository?
If the new backup copy job does not create 10 restore points, should I copy manually all the data from the second to the third repository before creating the new backup copy job?
Regards

Hi Mario, backup copy job will create a single restore point corresponding to the latest VM state. To keep all the restore points you currently have on the second repository, you need to copy them over to the third one, rescan it, and map the job to the copied files. You can even continue using the existing backup copy job, just re-point it to the new repository.

[MERGED] Moving Veeam backup repository to a new volume

Post by ROSA »

I want to move the backup repository to a new volume on the same server.
Now the repository is on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on disk D: in a directory called Backup.
I've created a new (bigger) volume as disk E:
The idea is to copy the whole D:\Backup directory to E:\Backup, then stop all Veeam service and switch the drive letters D: <-> E:
Is this the correct way?
Or should I create a new repository on E: and proceed like described here: https://www.veeam.com/kb1729 ?

Thank you.
But I was a little impatient and did it the way I've described, before you posted your answer.
It seems, it did go well ...

[MERGED] Moving Backup Repository to new location

Post by karnov »

I have installed a new Hyper-V server and backup repository. I have an old repository that I would like to migrate all the existing backup files and point the backup jobs to the new server so I can decommission the old server and take it out of production. I have added the new repository to the Backup Infrastructure. What are the next steps to migrate and point all the existing jobs to the new repository?

Thanks!

Hi Karnov,
We have an article "How to move Veeam Backup and Replication backup files".
Your case would be [Method A] Same Job, New Backup Location.
